KFC is China’s top brand, ahead of Pampers and Colgate, according to research from the BBC and Millward Brown. Thirteen of the top 20 brands are from the US, two from Germany and two from France, with South Korea’s Samsung the only Asian company to figure. The study finds that while Chinese consumers once valued low prices above everything else when making choices, a mix of higher living standards and declining trust in local brands has led people to look more to international brands. “Our research shows that in the last three years, trust in Chinese brands has eroded quite dramatically,” says Millward Brown’s Peter Walshe.
